Buddy Run
What a fabulous Buddy Run we had on Friday.  The weather was perfect and the event could not have gone more smoothly.  Thank you to all of the parents, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event so successful!  Not only were we able to raise money for the school, but the students had a spectacular time getting fresh air, bonding with their buddy, and getting fit!  Thank you also to Ms. Gina and her crew for the delicious buddy run lunch and to Chartwells for the generous donation!

Chefs 2 Schools
Speaking of Food Service, students were able to enjoy Chef Ralf this past week during St. Paul's first Chefs 2 Schools experience.  Chef Ralf did a cooking demonstration for students as they picked up their lunches.  There was also a give away for those students who had specially marked trays.  They received their very own chef hat and were able to have their picture taken with Chef Ralf and Ms. Gina!  We're already looking forward to the next Chefs 2 Schools visit!

In Harmony Choir
What a turnout we had last Monday for the first In Harmony Choir rehearsal!  There were 48 students who arrived at 7:15 to join St. Paul's In Harmony Choir!  Starting this week, Senora Meli will also be helping with this fun opportunity.  Students will rehears every Monday school is in session until December 16. The choir will perform at All School Chapel services as well as Bishop Spencer Place. To participate in these performances students may not miss more than three rehearsals. Mrs. Everly and Senora will also be working with students after Christmas break for a spring session of In Harmony.

Community Learning Events
This past week we had the pleasure of listening to local author Bill Severns share his experience and insight on coaching and children's participation in athletics.  Bill was an engaging speaker and besides sharing his testimony and personal stories he was also able to share some of the wisdom he wrote about in his books, Keepers of the Sandlot and The Sandlot Strategy.  Some of the advice I was able to take away included: let everyone play regardless of their skill level or what's on the line, listen to your child and let him or her choose what sport or activity they want to participate in, athletics and extra curriculars are all about enjoying friends, having fun, and learning skills that will translate to other fields later in life, speak gently to kids, and after the win or loss let the game go and enjoy your child.  We hope to  have Bill back again in the Spring in case you were unable to attend and would like to hear him speak.

Join Cristi Williams and Lynnette Rempel this Thursday from 4-5:30 in the ECC commons for Love and Logic.  Please contact Linda Van Thullenar to RSVP and for payment information.  Cristi and Lynnette are both trained Love and Logic facilitators and both use Love and Logic with their own children and students.  These sessions have lots of valuable information and tools to help with those tricky parenting moments.

Join other St. Paul's community members at Carolyn's Pumpkin Patch from 10-2 on Saturday, October 12!  This is a time to socialize with  classmates, fellow parents, and other members of our community.  There are also lots of really fun activities for the kids.  Admission is $10 per person.  Children under 2 are free.  You can also receive discount tickets at local HyVee stores.  Click here to see the flier for more information.
