It was such a delight to meet you and your children at Open House, the New Parent Orientation, and on the first day of school! We could not have gotten off to a better start! Thank you for all you did to help prepare your children for the start of the school year. I've had the opportunity to visit with students in the halls and at lunch as well as observe all of the wonderful things going on in their classrooms. It's an absolute pleasure to be partnering with you and their teachers to help them grow this year.
Be sure to save the date for Lower School Curriculum Night. It's Thursday, September 5 at 6 P.M. More info will come about the location for each grade level. Teachers will use this time to share details about units of study, learning objectives, resources and books they utilize, and other important information about your child's year. We're looking forward to seeing you!
Carpool
Thank you so much for your help in making carpool as safe and efficient as possible! We appreciate your commitment to refraining from using your cell phone while in line and also from parking in Starbucks or on 41st street and walking to retrieve your child. Our students' safety is our number one priority and we sincerely can not say thank you enough for helping keep our students safe.
Eucharist Chapel
The first Eucharist Chapel will be held for grades three through eight on Friday, August 30. Classroom teachers will help prepare students prior to chapel by explaining the three main ways in which they can participate. We ask that you speak to your child prior to then and help them decide which choice is most comfortable for them and for your family. Students may remain in the pew and refrain from partaking, they may kneel at the altar and receive a blessing, or they may receive one or both of the sacraments (bread only or bread and wine). Toddler through second grade will have chapel in the ECC commons on August 30 while the older grades are participating in Eucharist Chapel. However, on Thursday, August 29th the younger students will have their All School Chapel service in the church.
Chaplain Castellan
Please help us in welcoming Chaplain Castellan! We are thrilled to have her join our community and share her talents with us. She just arrived in Kansas City last week and is settling into her new role as the school's chaplain and the associate rector of St. Paul's Church. Chaplain Castellan will be spending Tuesday-Friday mornings at the school and will spend the afternoons at the church. She will be leading Lower School chapel services on Thursday mornings in addition to leading all school chapel on Friday.
Conferences
Fall parent teacher conferences are Thursday, October 24 from 12 P.M. until 8 P.M. and Friday, October 25 from 7:30 A.M. to 12 P.M. Teachers will be contacting you soon to sign up.
School Pictures
More information will be coming soon regarding school pictures. Pictures will be taken September 17 or 18 depending on your child's grade level.
Family Fun Fest
Family Fun Fest will be here before we know it and you definitely don't want to miss it. We hope to see you on the field after carpool on Friday, September 20. More details will be provided from the chairs and room parents regarding helping with events and purchasing tickets for your child.
Pet Blessing
All school chapel on Friday, September 27 will be our annual Pet Blessing. Students in kindergarten through second grade are welcome to bring a pet. We ask that older students do not in order to help make this event manageable and special for our younger students.
Visiting and Following Blogs
Be sure to visit the grade level blog for your child's grade level. If you select "Follow" on the right hand side and supply your email address, you'll receive an email reminder each time the blog is updated. This is one of the best ways to stay up to date on what's going on in the classroom. You may also follow any of the specials' blogs and/or Ms. Barnes' Monday Morning Memo on her blog.
