Thank you Parents' Guild and Cultural Arts Committee for bringing Patricia Polacco to St. Paul's! What a delight it was to hear this fabulous author share her stories, the personal challenges she has overcome, and the wisdom she had for our students. Second through fifth grade students were able to hear her share the story of the shooting star that landed right in her grandparents front yard! Students were able to touch a small piece of the meteorite that she had brought with her and make their very own wish. Mrs. Polacco also spoke about the importance of our choices and words and our responsibility to help and include others. In addition, she shared that as an adolescent she couldn't read and had to work hard to overcome multiple learning disabilities. Overall, it was a phenomenal presentation filled with both humor and wisdom.
Our very own Chaplain Castellan also shared a powerful message this week with our students in third through fifth grade during her weekly chapel lesson on Thursday. As a child, Chaplain Castellan was drug to each and every one of her brother's baseball games in order to support him. Though she had numerous things she would have preferred to be doing, her mother reminded her that it was her responsibility to make sure her brother was happy. Chaplain Castellan extended this message and explained to students that we each have a responsibility to be our "brothers' keepers" and to take care of our classmates and others. It was a powerful message that reminds us of how important our words, choices, and actions are. As we work hard to teach the St. Paul's Life Skills and to fulfill our mission of helping develop the whole child, this lesson summarizes the importance of being considerate and compassionate to our siblings, classmates, and fellow mankind even when, at times, it may interfere with our own personal desires.

Children's Spot therapists and personnel from The Midwest Ear Institute will be on campus Thursday, September 26 to test any Lower School students whose parents have elected to have them tested. Parents of students in grades one through three should have received a letter and form in the mail that you can complete and return to school if you would like to have your child tested. If you would like your fourth or fifth grader tested there are forms located at Mr. Darnell's desk. You can also email your child's teacher and he or she will ensure that your child brings a form home. Testing is $12 and forms should be returned by September 18.
Pet Blessing
Pet Blessing is Friday, September 27. First and second grade students are invited to bring a live pet to have blessed. All other students are welcome to bring a picture of their pet(s). This special chapel service will take place on the field during normal all school chapel time. Students are asked to report to their classrooms and then they will meet parents and pets on the field. Thanks for your help and support with this St. Paul's tradition.
